Toshiba Enters Solid State Drive Market

Toshiba has announced its first lineup of solid state drives (SSDs), based on NAND flash memory and designed primarily for use in notebook computers.

Toshiba’s first SSDs will be available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB capacities and will provide low power consumption, a faster boot time, and light weight, when compared to standard hard drives.

The solid state drives will utilize a Serial ATA 2 (3Gbps) interface, and maximum read and write speeds of 100MB and 40MB per second respectively.

They will be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, from January 7th to 10th. Mass production will start in March next year.
