Intel Z-P140 PATA - World’s Smallest SSD

Intel has announced the Z-P140 PATA solid state drive, which is “smaller than a penny and weighs less than a drop of water”.

“The tiniest in the industry, the Intel Z-P140 PATA SSD is designed for ultra-small mobile internet devices, digital entertainment and embedded applications and is part of the proposed Intel “Menlow” platform. The Intel Z-P140 PATA SSD comes in 2 Gigabyte (GB) and 4GB densities, extendable to 16GB,” the chip maker says.

This 0.6-gram solid state drive, which connects to a system via a Parallel-ATA interface, has a read throughput of 40 megabytes per second and a write throughput of 30 MB/s.

The Intel Z-P140 PATA SSD will be showcased at Consumer Electronics Show in January 2008. Its availability date is currently unknown.
